My everyday goth makeup, in fifteen minutes

Skin first, and less of it than you'd think

I use less base than most people expect. Heavy full-coverage foundation on pale skin under any kind of flash reads as a mask, and it kills the texture that makes a face look like a face.

So: light base, concealer only where I actually need it, and powder just through the middle. That's it. If the eyes and lips are doing something dramatic, the skin should be the calm part.

The liner, and the angle that matters

Line along the lash line first on both eyes and check they match before you go anywhere near a wing. Everyone draws the wing first, and that's why one eye ends up higher.

For the flick, follow the angle of your lower lash line pointed up toward the tail of your brow. That single rule is the difference between a wing that lifts your eye and one that drags it down. I use a felt tip on a normal day and gel only when I've got time to be precise.

Then I smudge a little black shadow under the lower lash line, outer third only. That's the step people leave out and it's what stops the look feeling like clean graphic liner and starts it feeling goth.

No contour, ever

I don't contour and I think it actively fights this look. Contour is about sculpting warmth and shadow into the face. What I want is flat, cool, high-contrast — dark eyes and mouth against light skin, nothing muddy in between.

If I want dimension I get it from lighting, not from bronzer. Move the lamp, don't paint the shadow on.

The lip does the rest

A dark lip is doing more work than any other product on my face, and it takes twenty seconds. I overline slightly, blot, and go over it once so it stays put through coffee.

On days I genuinely can't be bothered, the whole face is: concealer, liner, dark lip. Three things, five minutes, and it still reads as a full look in a photo.
